We Are Ruled By Thugs, Hooligans, Criminals And Untrustworthy Politicians

The recent fracas in the Edo house of assembly just concludes that most of our so called leaders and lawmakers are nothing but THUGS.

The Speaker of Edo House of Assembly, Mr Victor Edoroh, was impeached by 16 of the 24 members of the assembly on Tuesday. In his place, a woman, Mrs Elizabeth Ativie was elected by the lawmakers as the new Speaker. The impeachment followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Folly Ogedemgbe. “This is an impeachment notice signed by 16 members that the speaker Victor Edoroh and his deputy, are hereby impeached. Ativie’s name was submitted as speaker while Mr Justin Okonobo was nominated as deputy speaker. The two were subsequently approved to lead the House by the lawmakers.

A mild drama, however, ensued immediately after the new speaker took her seat, when the assembly’s chamber was invaded by the impeached speaker, Mr Victor Edoroh in the company of some suspected thugs. The situation made security operatives to immediately take over control of the assembly’s premises, as staff scampered for safety.

This is not news in Nigeria as there are constant fights in the houses of assembly. Rivers State, Nassarawa State, Edo State etc. This act of publicly embarrassing Nigeria is just to satisfy their selfish desires and only shows us that we truly have thugs as leaders.

THUG:- a violent person, especially a criminal.

Since our leaders behave like thugs, it only right for me to say we have thugs leading us. How then do they expect us to trust them?

The impeached speaker of the Edo house of assembly is accused of siphoning money monthly. He was impeached, but instead of stepping down, He brought his thugs of colleague to cause nuisance and reign havoc in the assembly chambers.

How can this trend of thugs and cultist ruling us stop? It can only stop when elections becomes free and fair.

No matter what you see and hear, elections in Nigeria are still not free and fair. If it was, some thugs and empty headed people would not be given political appointments.

This is how it works: When its election time, politicians find a way to win at all cost, hereby employing thugs, militants, and cultist etc. to carry out their dirty work. They rig the elections, kill and commit all kinds of havoc. Eventually they succeed and their employer wins the race.

Now the politician is in office and has to appoint commissioners, special advisers etc. Instead of appointing sound minds and calm headed folks, he appoints those thugs who he used to commit electoral havoc, as a form of compensation, so that they will bury the truth. This is why we have more thugs in political offices than calm headed and civilized people.

A 29-year-old tricycle operator, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, has alleged that some of the arms used by robbers were given to them by politicians during campaigns.

The suspect, Muyideen Ibrahim, was arrested alongside other robbery suspects that have been terrorising the state. Recovered from him and five other suspected members of his gangs, were some locally made pistols and live cartridges. Identities of suspected members of his gang are; Ramonu Sanusi, Rilawanu Ayinde , Sodiq Olaide and Kazeem Idris . 

His arrest as gathered, followed a tip off by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS Ikeja. In an interview with Vanguard , the suspect also confessed to be using his tricycle to convey weapons for members of separate robbery gangs, who he said were also members of different confraternities. 

He said “ I use my keke Marwa to convey weapons for the gang. I am a political thug and not a robber. I work during elections only. Most of the guns were given to us by politicians. We get the guns from some honorables at Onike. They pay us at the end of the day. But some political thugs end up not taking the guns back to the politicians. Most of the thugs are cultists. 

One of them (cultists) Dagbe Ahmed, stays with me. But I never knew he is an armed robber. I was arrested because the police got to know that he stays with me. Dagbe and I work for different politicians. I do not fight or kill like them, I only operate with my keke marwa after elections”, he said The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni said other members of the gang whose identities he gave as Oshanleke and Sodiq Kashi, were still at large , adding that effort was in progress to arrest them.

Politicians employ thugs to commit crimes and reign havoc for them. This guns are what cultist use to commit more hideous crimes. This weapons are what is used to terrorize our country. So I ask, What does that make our political leaders? If Not CRIMINALS and THUGS. 

That's why they can afford to fight like thugs in the House of Assembly.
