We At The Grassroots Live A Corrupt Life... Yet We Want Change....

It's amazing when people say we need change in our country, yet they don't act any better.

What do I mean by Corrupt?

Corrupt can simply be defined as a cause to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.

Here is a true experience:

A friend went to one of our government  owned hospital with his mum for check up. They got there as early as possible but still met a long queue. 

They finish every necessary process but one; To see the doctor...

As they waited patiently on the long queue to see the doctor, a nurse approached them.

In a polite manner the nurse offered them a get out of jail free card. This card was for them to bribe her in other to be fast-tracked to see the doctor.

My friend was puzzled for awhile, trying to understand how his mum who was far behind would be brought to the front. But the nurse said to him "if your interested and willing to pay anything is possible". Obviously a regular act they involved in at the hospital. He thought for awhile and wanted to turn down the offer, but when he looked at his tired aged and ill mum he decided to take the offer. Thinking; "after-all this is Nigeria anything is possible ones you have cash".

So he paid, or should I say 'Gifted' the nurse a token, and magically his mum's name was called much quicker than it was supposed to.

Oh no, it doesn't end there.

On her next check up at the same hospital. Same routine, they got there as early as possible, finished all necessary processes and luckily they were among the first group waiting to see the doctor.

While waiting, to his surprise the same nurse from their last check up approached them again with the same offer, He declined because his mum would soon be called in to see the doctor, but the nurse took offense. Shocked that the nurse was offended just because he refused to give her bribe, so he asked if it was now a routine? She got even more offended and left angrily.

That is just one experience and there are more cases happening, even now. These just shows how deep corruption is in our system. 

We want change right? Yes!!! But It's No Magic...  

This change we want so badly can't only happen at the top, especially when we at the grassroots are living in the same corrupt manner.

For us to see effective change take place, we all have to work together in other to achieve it.
