The NLC will go on strike for unnecessary issues when they
are more important ones the people of Nigeria face. Issues that seems
meaningless, but is it slowly becoming an epidemic, killing our people
silently.
This is the issue of the Fulani Herdsmen.
Just about two weeks ago “the
invasion and senseless slaughter of persons in Ukpabi, Nimbo community of
Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by unknown herdsmen”, was
reported. Many communities, particularly in the North Central and Southern
states, have recently faced severe attacks allegedly perpetrated by Fulani
herdsmen.
The attack was reported to have been
spear-headed by over 500 unidentified Fulani herdsmen in Nimbo,Enugu State.
This mayhem led to the loss of over
50 lives, while over 2000 persons were displaced and property worth millions of
Naira destroyed, including Houses and churches burnt down.
The National Assembly, NASS,
expressed concern over the frequent herdsmen/farmers’ clashes across the
country, saying the development was capable of threatening the corporate
existence of the country.
While Senate President, Bukola
Saraki, sought an end to the spate of killings by the herdsmen to safeguard the
country’s unity and security, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu
Dogara, said there was need for deliberate and proactive actions to end the
incessant farmers and herdsmen clashes spreading across the country, noting
that it could divide Nigeria, if not properly checked. Speaking at a Senate
plenary, Saraki urged the Senate Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Adamu
Abdullahi, to fast-track the execution of the report of the Senate public
hearing aimed at addressing the herdsmen crisis.
Up till now, public hearing has not
started. “It is important for Nigerians to know that our so called leaders we
voted for are doing something about this perennial problem. It is not enough
for them to sit there and say they are doing something; we must actually see
them doing something. I believe that it is time for the committees to come
together and commence action on these resolutions namely, to start a public
hearing on this problem between the farmers and the cattle herdsmen. “I say
this because it is getting too late.
Just last week on Saturday 14th
May 2016, Channels news track reported that over 13 people were killed, farmlands
and properties destroyed by yet another attack by this said unidentified Fulani
Herdsmen in Buruku Local Government Area in Benue State Nigeria. No reports
from any other news outlet have been heard, no words from our so called
leaders, no words from NLC or any other union and civil groups.
The unending conflict between
farmers and herdsmen is threatening to throw the entire nation into another
round of crisis; an immediate resolution to this problem must be realized. Yet
nothing is being done, everyone is turning a blind eye while our people die.
Is the hike in fuel prize more
important than the lives of these innocent farmers that die on a daily basis?
Where are our senators?
Where are the members of the house
of reps?
Where is NLC and other unions?
Where are our media houses?
Where are those who have influence?
The
answer: They are nowhere. They are hypocrites.
You
know why? Because they are only interested in what directly affects them. They don’t
care about the common Nigerian, so long as this problem doesn’t affect them
directly then they don’t give a fu*k, they don’t care.
Audu Ogbe, Minister of Agriculture
and Rural Development, who expressed concern over criticism trailing proposed
importation of grasses for cattle, said: “I hear there is a bill in the Senate
seeking to create grazing routes, where are they grazing to, to another man’s
farm?
Creating grazing routes is not the
solution as it is known worldwide that cows kept in ranches produce better than
grazing cows.”
Obviously, the problem has been
found, the best solution which is for Nigeria to rare its cattle in ranches
have been spelt out, then why the delay?
Why
have the government not started plans to actualize this solution?
What
is the delay?
It is just a shame to us that
invasion by herdsmen is becoming a recurring issue across the country, and is
becoming a threat to the security of the nation.
I don’t know how unidentified
herdsmen keep causing mayhem in the country and why they are always described
as unidentified herdsmen.
Don’t
they have faces?
Don’t
they have names/homes?
Where
are our so called security personnels? Had it been innocent civilians, then
they would have the power to maltreat and beat them.
It goes to show that our leaders, so called unions and even civil organizations all have selfish agendas. They care for issues that affects them directly or indirectly, and those that do not concern them are not worth their time and energy. Are not worth fighting for.
Bottom Line: All those at the top are all HYPOCRITES!!!
The
Real Nigeria!!!
