Human Resource; A Problem To Our Nation's Employment

We lack sufficient working opportunities compared to our working age population. Though the earlier statement is a fact, still we have the capacity to employ over 50% of our current unemployed youths, but when we have a corrupt and nontransparent system. this will never be a reality anytime soon.

Some factors killing our employment capability:

GHOST WORKERS (Fake Employees):

These are those acclaimed employed workers under payroll; they have names, duties, every necessary document, bank accounts etc. but no FACE.

These people are implanted by egocentric high ranking individuals into government ministries, parastatals and companies, all to acquire more wealth. They even go as far as inputting their names in different agencies so as they get paid multiple times.

How about those who have reached retirement ages; still they don’t retire so that the younger generations can get employed. Some retire but their names are still on the payroll.

NO FREE AND FAIR EMPLOYMENT:

A friend of mine was contacted for an interview, she base in Calabar and the interview was scheduled to take place in Abuja.

She paid for her flight, accommodation, feeding etc.

As she got to the venue after much prepping, one of the officials gave them the shocker of their lives, He said,
“This interview is just a formality, as we already have people we want to employ to the various positions”.

Employment is hardly ever free and fair as you either have to buy job vacancies or connections.

HUMAN RESOURCE:

This is a key and major section of any firm/organization. They are basically in charge of the following processes: hiring, positioning and overseeing employees in an organization. This we lack in Nigeria.

Lemme tell you about my experience:

So I just recently graduated from one of our universities here. I felt so idle and decided to go job hunting. I and a friend went to submit our CV’s at a renowned company in Port Harcourt. Upon getting there, we were stopped at the gate by the company’s security. He asked why we were there, so we told him we wanted to submit our CV’s. He said they don’t collect CV’s, that CV’s were to be submitted in Lagos. We pleaded with him to help us submit it. I was shocked at the next thing he said;
“If I take your CV’s it will only be put in the trash, alongside the thousands of previously submitted CV’s”.

We are so backward even in this age of technology. Our companies cannot archive CV’s of applicant. In developed countries, these CV’s are collected and archived for future use. In a case where there is vacancy these archived CV’s are reviewed and qualified persons are contacted.

If our human resource system is completely functional, there will be no case of ghost workers and even cases of having connections before getting employed. Moreover, it will allow qualified persons with intellectual minds get employed, hereby enabling these employed persons use their great minds and ideas to improve our nation.

If the inefficiencies of our human resources are tackled, Nigeria will stop spending unnecessary funds on ghost workers, lesser minds and person without potentials.

We need qualified and intelligent minds, not empty skulls!!!

We Need A Functional And Unbiased Human Resource Management System.

The Real Nigeria…
