Overlooked Key Sectors Retarding The Growth Of Our Economy....

Nigeria, the giant of Africa, a place with over 160million people, positioned at the best location in Africa. A country with the best of weather conditions, favorable for export crops, minerals and lots of resources.

A republic aged about 53years, yet still UNDERDEVELOPED!!!

Yes the transformation is on going,  but it's taking forever.

I carried out a survey on some Nigerian youths to find out "What Key Sectors Our Government Should Focus On."

And the results are as follows:

  • Power (Electricity) - 87%
  • Industrialization     - 72%
  • Infrastructures      - 78%
  • Education             -  60%

POWER (Electricity):

Nigeria got its independent in 1960, over 55years ago. From then till today there have never been a time where we have had electricity for 24hours.

Yes, it's that bad. Most times we stay for months without power.

Power is the backbone of any society. It's a basic need of man and his-self development. It's also the major need of any country for it's development, industrialization and investment.

How are we going to grow as a nation when we lack the major need for our development?

INDUSTRIALIZATION:

This is the process in which a society or country transforms itself from a primarily agricultural society into one based on the manufacturing of goods and services. Hereby improving our revenue and employment rates.

We are still lacking in this aspect, as we import everything importable.

The definition above states; 'a country transforms itself from a primarily agricultural society into one based on the manufacturing of goods and services'. But Nigeria is not even agriculturally developed, as we import agricultural goods too. It was stated that Nigeria will starve to death by 2050.

So how then can we be industrialized when we are not even a primarily agricultural society?

INFRASTRUCTURES:

This are basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g., buildings, hospitals, schools, roads, and power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or country for its economy to function/grow.

I don't think I need to say  much as our present state speaks for itself.

Yes; We have infrastructures. But they are all substandard.

We hear of daily cases where building collapse, roads keep deteriorating, power cables and transformers blow up.

How about Our Hospitals:

  • Where we have poor buildings and facilities.
  • Where patients sleep on the floor, because there are no beds.
  • Where you must come with or buy everything you need to use (buckets, water, even gloves).

Or Our Schools:

  • Where children still learn under trees.
  • Where some learn indoors in classrooms only during the dry season, because when the raining season comes, its as good as being outdoors, under the rain.

EDUCATION:

This is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits.

No Nigeria university is among the top 800 best schools in the world.

  • We lack educational infrastructures.
  • Poor student-teacher ratio.
  • We lack enthusiastic teachers; You see lecturers not teaching collecting money from students for good grades.
Why? Simple, because they are not well paid.
  • We lack good research and technological centers.

Yes, we are intelligent, but how can we have gurus in different fields of life, when our educational system sucks?

When we have inadequate facilities?

When we have no means of pushing our brain to it's maximum capacity, to produce breathe taking and unimaginable results.

Note: The fight against corruption is a good cause, but all our resources should not be put into one basket, especially when other key sectors keep deteriorating daily.

If this sectors are still in this present state, then Nigeria will never be better.

The Real Nigeria...
